Love is Love

My husband and I have been married 12 years. There’s a 19-year age gap between us so people are often surprised when they see us together. It doesn’t help that I look ten years younger than my actual age. We’ve had our share of ups and downs, like all couples, but our strength comes from our love and respect for one another. I empathize with same-sex couples, and even had a seven-year relationship with a woman several years ago, because of the ways they are judged by appearances. Love is love. Period. Who we love is who we love. Period. It’s no one's business, really. So today I applaud all those who are challenging the norms of what it means to love and to be loved. What it means to see and to be seen. If others choose to judge or to have a small-minded perspective about love, then that is their choice. But I choose (and I hope you do too) to embrace a larger experience of life and love, and I choose to open up my mind and my heart to all the ways that love can heal and transform my understanding of myself and others.
